In short

  • A first order passes through consultation, prescriber review, ID and weight checks, dispensing and a chilled courier
  • GPhC guidance says prescribers cannot rely on an online questionnaire alone for weight management medicines
  • The prescriber must independently verify your weight, height or BMI
  • One KwikPen lasts 4 weeks, so reorder around your third dose
  • Weekends and bank holidays add days because many pharmacies and couriers do not dispatch

A first online Mounjaro order in the UK often takes 2 to 5 working days from the end of your consultation to delivery. When every check passes first time, some orders arrive the next working day. When the prescriber needs more evidence, the wait can stretch to a week or more. Repeat orders are usually faster, because your identity is already confirmed. Since one KwikPen lasts 4 weeks, the safest habit is to reorder around your third dose.

Why a first order takes days, not minutes

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, and online supply in Great Britain is regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Its guidance for pharmacies providing services at a distance was updated in February 2025. For weight management medicines, the guidance says:

  • the prescriber cannot base the decision on an online questionnaire alone
  • the prescriber must independently verify your weight, height or body mass index (BMI)
  • there should always be a way for you and the prescriber to talk to each other in both directions

Online pharmacies must also run an identity check suited to the medicine. Each of these steps involves a person reviewing evidence, so a lawful first order has a built-in wait.

The stages, step by step

StageWhat happensTypical time
ConsultationYou complete a medical form covering your health, other medicines and weight history10 to 20 minutes
Identity checkAn electronic check or a photo ID with a selfieMinutes if automatic, longer if reviewed by hand
Weight checkA photo, video or record confirming your weight and heightMinutes to upload, then reviewed with your form
Prescriber reviewA prescriber reads your answers and evidence, and may message or call youSame day to 2 working days
DispensingThe pharmacy checks the prescription, labels the pen and packs it with cool packsSame day or next working day
CourierA tracked, usually next-day service1 working day in most of the UK

These times describe a smooth order. Any stage can pause while the pharmacy waits for something from you.

The consultation

The form asks about conditions which affect whether Mounjaro is safe for you. These include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, type 1 or type 2 diabetes and the medicines you take for it, severe gut conditions, pregnancy plans and eating disorders. Answer honestly and fully. A vague or contradictory answer is the most common reason a prescriber stops to ask more questions.

Identity and weight checks

Many people pass the identity check in minutes. Delays come from blurred photos, a name which differs from the order, or an address which has changed. If you do not have a passport, the ID checks guide lists the documents and methods most pharmacies accept.

The weight check is separate. Expect to upload a full-length photo, take part in a short video call, or allow the prescriber to see your GP or NHS records.

Prescriber review

The prescriber may approve the order straight away, send you a message, or ask for a call. Some ask to contact your GP, especially if you have a condition or medicine which needs checking. The page on whether pharmacies tell your GP covers consent and what is shared. A wait for a GP surgery to reply is the longest single delay many people meet.

Dispensing and delivery

Mounjaro must stay cold. Pharmacies pack it with cool packs in insulated boxes and send it on tracked services timed to arrive quickly. Many do not dispatch chilled parcels on Fridays or before a bank holiday, so a weekend can sit between approval and dispatch. When the parcel arrives, put the pens in the fridge at 2C to 8C straight away.

What slows an order down

  • Placing an order late on a Thursday or on a Friday. Approval may come before the weekend but dispatch waits for Monday.
  • An identity check which fails because of glare, cropping or an expired document.
  • A weight photo which does not show your full body, or which looks edited.
  • Answers in the form which need follow-up, for example a past episode of pancreatitis or a current eating disorder.
  • A request to your GP, which depends on how fast the surgery replies.
  • Bank holidays, Christmas and New Year, and courier strikes. The Christmas delivery guide has dates for the end of the year.
  • Stock problems at a particular strength. The pharmacy should tell you if a strength is out of stock rather than hold the order.

Watch your email and the pharmacy's app or account after you order. Many delays are waiting on a reply from you, and the pharmacy cannot move on until you answer.

Repeat orders

A repeat order is usually shorter. Your identity is on record, so you complete a brief review form with your current weight and any side effects. Many pharmacies ask for a fresh weight photo at intervals. A repeat order which passes review on a weekday morning often arrives the next working day.

Expect a fuller review in these situations:

  • your dose is going up, since the SmPC requires at least 4 weeks on each dose before a step up
  • your weight has dropped a lot, or your BMI is close to the lower threshold
  • you have had a break of 2 weeks or more
  • you report new side effects or a change in your health or medicines
  • you move to a new pharmacy, which will run its own checks from the start

Timing your reorder

Each KwikPen holds 4 doses, one a week. Ordering around dose 3 gives you about 2 weeks for the review, dispensing and courier. Order earlier when your dose is increasing, when you are going away and before a bank holiday. The guide to avoiding a gap between pens has a day-by-day timetable.

If the new pen is late, the patient leaflet sets a clear rule. If 4 days or fewer have passed since your usual injection day, take the dose as soon as the pen arrives. If more than 4 days have passed, skip that dose and take the next one on your normal day. Keep at least 3 days between two doses, and never take a double dose to catch up. Do not use leftover liquid from your old pen as a stopgap.

Signs an order is moving too fast

A seller who supplies Mounjaro with no identity check, no weight check and no way to speak to a prescriber is not following GPhC guidance. Speed with no checks is a warning sign. Every legitimate supplier must be registered with the GPhC, and you can search the register on the GPhC website. The guide to buying Mounjaro in the UK sets out what a safe provider does. Questions people ask

How long does it take to get Mounjaro online?

For a first order, often 2 to 5 working days from finishing the consultation to delivery. Some arrive the next working day when every check passes first time. A request for more evidence, such as a GP record or a new photo, can add several days.

Why is my Mounjaro order taking so long?

The most common causes are a failed identity check, a weight photo the prescriber cannot use, a wait for your GP to reply, and orders placed late on a Friday or before a bank holiday. Check your email and the pharmacy account for messages, as the order often waits on you.

Are repeat Mounjaro orders quicker?

Usually. Your identity is already confirmed, so a repeat order often needs only a short review form and an updated weight. Expect a fuller review when your dose goes up, when your weight changes a lot, or after a break in treatment.

Can I get Mounjaro the same day?

Rarely for a first order. GPhC guidance requires an identity check, an independent check of your weight or BMI and a way to talk to the prescriber. Same-day supply is more realistic for a repeat order collected in person.

When should I reorder my next Mounjaro pen?

Around your third dose. A pen holds 4 weekly doses, so ordering at dose 3 gives about 2 weeks for review and delivery. Order earlier before a dose increase and before bank holidays.

What happens if my Mounjaro arrives late?

Take the dose within 4 days of your usual injection day if the pen arrives in time. If more than 4 days pass, skip that dose and take the next one on your normal day. Never take a double dose.
